Community Mental Health Practicum

This practicum offers students in psychology and social work programs experience in community based mental health, with a strong emphasis on current empirically validated treatment approaches within child and adolescent mental health. The practicum is designed to prepare graduate students via clinical experiences, instruction, and supervision for transition from student to professional within the field of adolescent mental health. Students will develop knowledge of intensive outpatient (IOP) and partial hospitalization programs (PHP) offered at Casa Pacifica within our Camino a Casa program.  Students will actively participate in a multi-disciplinary team in the provision of group therapy and collaborative treatment planning including utilization reviews supporting the need for continued mental health treatment needs of children and adolescents and discharge planning.

Applicant Requirements:
To be considered for our 2022-23 Practicum Training year, you must meet the following requirements:         
    • Be enrolled in either a social work (MSW) or psychology (Psy.D. or Ph.D.) graduate program
      (please note we do not offer practicums for MFT students or Licensed Professional Clinical Counseling students)
    • Have a valid driver’s license
    • Have a class schedule that allows for a 3-day-per week, 20-hour practicum
    •  Social Work students: September through April
    •  Psychology Doctoral Students: September through June
Psychology Doctoral Students:  It is recommended that your complete application package is received in our office by February 22, 2022. Our interviews will begin in March of 2022.

2021-22 Doctoral Interns

APA Accredited Doctoral Psychology Internship

Casa Pacifica will not be offering an internship for the 2023-2024 training year and therefore will not be accepting or reviewing applications for the APPIC match.

This one-year doctoral internship prepares doctoral candidates through clinical experiences, instruction, and supervision for transition from student to professional within the field of clinical child and adolescent psychology. Internships are available in either the residential treatment and Non-public school track or community based services track. Supervised experience is gained in providing individual and family therapy, facilitating psycho-educational groups, and administering psychosocial assessments and psychological evaluations. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association and a member of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers. Eligibility requirements include enrollment in a graduate program accredited by the American Psychological Association and participation in the computer matching system of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers.

Post-Doctoral Psychology Fellowship - Campus Based


2020-22 Postdoctoral Fellows

Casa Pacifica will not be offering postdoctoral fellowships for the 2023-2024 year.

This one-year post-doctoral psychology fellowship provides advanced training in child and adolescent clinical psychology with emphasis on community mental health. Fellowships are typically offered in our Short-Term Residential Program, Camino a Casa, or the Non-Public School. Supervised experience includes training in trauma and attachment within a Neurorelational model, cognitive-behavioral interventions, DBT, crisis assessment and management, brief and long-term psychotherapy, group therapy, family therapy, consultation, and advanced psychological assessment. Training experiences meet licensing requirements for the state of California and are a central component of the fellowship. The fellowship program is a member of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers. Eligibility requirements include completion of a doctoral degree from an institute of higher education accredited by the American Psychological Association or other regional accrediting agency and completion of a pre-doctoral internship which meets standards of Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers.
