Camarillo, CA – On Sunday, May 3rd, 2015 the “Best in Fest” brew competition for the upcoming Casa Pacifica Angels Wine, Food & Brew Festival (scheduled for Sunday, June 7th) took place at Barrelhouse 101 in Ventura, one-month prior to the Festival. Curtis Taylor of HopHeadSaid coordinated the competition between eight local craft breweries and blind judged by four brew experts – Erin Peters, “The Beer Goddess”; Lisa “Monie” Wickenden, beer specialist for the Wine Warehouse; Santa Barbara’s Zachary Rosen, beer educator; and Joby Yobe, Barrelhouse 101 owner. Entries from the brew masters were judged on style, aroma, appearance, flavor, mouthfeel, and overall impression. The winners of the 2nd annual event were: 1st place – LAB Brewing Company, in Agoura Hills, for its barrel-aged oatmeal stout; 2nd place – Pure Order Brewing Company, in Santa Barbara, with Santa Barbara Pale Ale; and 3rd place – Institution Ale Company, in Camarillo, with its “Delusions of Grandeur” barley wine. The winner, head brew master Roger Bott for LAB Brewing Company (which operates at Twisted Oak Tavern) will be awarded his prize at the Wine, Food & Brew Festival, and the winning brew will be served at the Yummie Top Chef Dinner taking place two nights prior to the Festival.
In addition to the announcement of the “Best in Fest” brew competition winner and winners of the annual Yummie culinary competition between Festival exhibitors, the main stage will also feature exciting entertainment throughout the day including a Festival favorite – Benise, Spanish guitar master and worldwide recognized artist, and Wes Quave Live which covers favorite hits from several decades as well as offering original songs of its own. Shawn McMaster an amazing local magician who specializes in close-up magic with an original sense of humor will be working the crowd in the VIP Lounge. He will be joined there by the band Sound Effect, who has the VIP guests up and dancing each year.
New this year, the Festival’s extensive Silent Auction will offer online bidding through its link at casapacif.myab.co so guests at the Festival can make sure they aren’t being outbid without standing over the table, and those who can’t attend the event may also have a chance at winning one of the fabulous gift baskets. Silent auction offerings this year include a 24-person event suite at the Staples Center for a November 2015 Clippers basketball game; magical Mexico getaways (more than one available) to the stunning Cerritos Surf Colony Resort in Cabo San Lucas; and an elegant ‘Dinner in the Orchard’ for up to 12 guests at Limoneira Ranch, catered by Chef Jason Collis of Plated Events and including rentals by Ventura Rental Party Center.
The Wine, Food & Brew Festival itself will take place on Sunday, June 7th, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at California State University Channel Islands and will feature more than 85 restaurants and 150 wines, brews, and beverages. Live entertainment, an extensive silent auction, and the Yummie culinary competition will round out the exciting events of the day. Tickets are on sale - $125 General Admission ($150 at the door) and $250 for VIP tickets. To purchase tickets visit the Festival website at www.cpwinefoodbrewfest.com. In addition, the Festival is still welcoming exhibitors and sponsors, so it’s not too late to sign up and connect your name or business with this “Can’t Miss” event.
