Annual Winter Festival and Coat Drive to Benefit Casa Pacifica Gathers 2,200 Items!
Westlake Village, CA January 12, 2016 – Lydia Gable of Keller Williams Realty and Rick Winters of Winters Financial Group hosted their 6th Annual Coats-for-Casa Pacifica charity event at Three Springs Park in Westlake Village, on Saturday, January 9th, 2016, from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. A perfect day for winter play with dark clouds and cold temperatures, happy children, mothers, fathers, and grandparents gleefully enjoyed three different sledding areas, a Tiny Tots snow play spot, and a wonderful winter crafts booth hosted by Macaroni Kids over the four hour event.
Rick and Lydia had 25-tons of snow delivered by Artic Glacier for the day’s snow play festivities, and brought in Apollos Espresso and Shaved Ice to serve up coffee, hot chocolate and yummy smoothies for the attendees. Event sponsors Zwaag Termite and Michael Lang Designs, along with a grant from the City of Westlake Village ensured the event had the resources it needed to continue to put on a great community event. And, 30 fantastic volunteers planned, organized, and were on hand to make sure the day ran smoothly and was a big hit – many of them members if the Agoura High School Dance Team – all to benefit the children, youth, and families of Casa Pacifica in a tangible way. Casa Pacifica is a facility that provides emergency shelter, medical assessment and treatment and a host of other services to children removed from their homes for abuse and neglect, in addition to community-based interventions for children/youth struggling with mental health challenges and their families, and transition/emancipation services for youth exiting the foster care system.
More than 2,200 winter clothing items of all sizes – up from the 1,500 items collected last year – were donated during the event and from collection boxes placed around at different community locations, including new and gently used coats, sweaters, hoodies, mittens/gloves, winter hats, and scarves.
With such an abundance – Casa Pacifica plans to share in its wealth. Once its children and families have been able to choose their coats, sweaters, mittens, hats, etc., the remaining winter clothing items will be given to other local charities caring for children and families such as Mixtec Project, BattleGround Inc., South Coast Fellowship, Christ Solid Rock Foundation, and Life of Victory Church.
Rick Winters and Lydia Gable couldn’t be more pleased with the success of this year’s event and are already looking forward to next year’s Coats for Casa Pacifica event.
