Overview
Casa Pacifica’s Safe Alternatives for Treating Youth (SAFTY™) service provides quick and accessible crisis intervention for students at the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB) who live on or near campus and who are experiencing a mental or behavioral health crisis. The program offers specialized risk assessments, de-escalation and mental health support and connections to ongoing mental health resources.
SAFTY mobile crisis aims to keep UCSB students enrolled and successfully progressing in their coursework, prevent psychiatric hospitalizations, and connect students to ongoing resources.
Who is Eligible?
The SAFTY service is available exclusively to UCSB students living on or near the UCSB campus.
Referrals
UCSB Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), UCSB After Hours Crisis Services, UCSB Student Health Services, and UCSB Housing Services, as well as the UC Police Department, may call the SAFTY Mobile Crisis line when requesting support.

How SAFTY Works
The goal of the SAFTY Program at UCSB is to:
- Provide immediate crisis intervention
- Crisis stabilization
- Help individuals develop coping strategies
- Provide compassionate and appropriate mental health support
- Create safety plans for managing future crises
- Provide coordinated care in times of distress
SAFTY is not a first responder to the following situations or events:
- Active violence
- Active suicide attempt
- Active self-injury with a weapon
- Domestic violence
- Medical call
- Active fire/hazardous material
- Active drug/alcohol use
SAFTY mobile crisis is available seven days a week, 3:00 PM – 1:00 AM, including all holidays.
