At 19 years old, Sienna is learning something many young adults take for granted: how to build a future.
After an unsteady childhood, coupled with mental health challenges and substance use, Sienna entered Casa Pacifica’s Transitional Youth Services (TYS) program unsure of herself and her future. Like many young adults who have experienced instability, she had never been given the opportunity to learn some of the basic skills needed for independent adulthood.
Eight months later, Sienna is discovering what it means to take control of her future.
One of the most important lessons has been financial literacy. Through TYS, she is learning how to create a budget, understand credit and better manage her finances. Concepts that many young people learn from parents or family members are entirely new to her.
For Sienna, these lessons represent more than dollars and cents. They represent confidence, self-sufficiency, and the belief that she can create a stable life for herself.
Today, she works regularly, taking the bus to and from her job while saving for future goals. She is participating in driving lessons, giving her greater independence and access to new opportunities. This summer, she plans to take college classes as she continues exploring potential career paths. When transportation challenges arise, donor-funded gift cards help ensure she can continue getting to work, classes, and appointments without interruption.
Sienna is also discovering new interests and healthy ways to care for herself. Hiking has become one of her favorite outlets, helping her clear her mind and stay grounded. She has developed an interest in healthy living and is learning how to cook, another important step toward self-sufficiency and confidence.
Most importantly, she has begun to see herself differently.
“Because of my Casa Pacifica team, I feel more steady here than I have in years,” Sienna says. “For a long time, I was just focused on what was right in front of me. Now I’m thinking about my future and what I want my life to look like.”

Sienna participates in Stepping Stones, a supportive housing program within Casa Pacifica’s TYS program. Through stable housing and individualized wraparound support, young adults are empowered to develop the skills, confidence and direction needed to achieve lasting independence.
“What stands out most about Sienna is how quickly she’s become independent-minded,” says John Duran, Stepping Stones Supervisor. “When she first came to us, she was focused on meeting her immediate needs. Now she’s thinking about where she wants to be a year from now, what kind of career interests her, how to manage her money, and what steps she needs to take to reach her goals.”
Duran says the shift reflects something deeper than learning practical life skills.
“For many young adults who have experienced instability, no one has ever had the chance to teach them things like budgeting, saving money, understanding credit, or planning for the future,” he said. “Once those foundational needs are met and they have the stability of housing and consistent support, they can start imagining what’s possible. Sienna has embraced that opportunity. She’s taking ownership of her future, making thoughtful decisions, and building a strong foundation for the life she wants to create.”
The transformation is not just about learning practical skills. It’s about gaining the confidence to believe that a different future is possible.
Today, Sienna is doing more than planning for the future. She’s discovering who she wants to become—and taking meaningful steps to get there. Because of supporters like you, young adults have the opportunity to build not only stability, but the confidence and sense of purpose needed to create a future of their own.
