Volunteer
Opportunities
Casa
Pacifica's on-site and Angels volunteer programs offer rare opportunities
for caring people to make a difference. Volunteers enlighten young
minds and open new doors, providing opportunities and possibilities.
Volunteers are positive role models -- the first for some of the
children -- and offer new-world perspectives.
We are always grateful for the generosity of each volunteer for
donating his/her time and devotion to the children. Some Casa Pacifica
volunteers have had experience in working with troubled youth; others
bring only the desire to help. No matter the level of experience,
the most important qualities of a volunteer are a tender heart and
an enthusiastic spirit.
Campus
Volunteering
Quality
and attentive volunteers who give their time are needed in all
areas
of the campus. Tutors, teachers' aids and activity assistants are
needed in the areas of academics, life skills, recreation and
vocational
training. All volunteers are required to undergo three 2 hour training
sessions. Please see Training Opportunities for dates and times.
After all training sessions are completed a $100.00 fee is required
to cover the costs of fingerprinting, TB test and application
process.
Must RSVP prior. Please
contact Tom
Ball at (805)484-7814 or tball@casapacifica.org
After
training, volunteers immediately begin to help. Here are some ways
volunteers make a difference in the lives of Casa Pacifica's children:
Tutoring
Our
preschool, non-public and county schools need tutors during and
after school hours. Preschool children need teachers' aids to assist
with reading, storytelling, developmental skills, social skills,
and playtime. The schools need volunteers to tutor students in reading,
math, electives and homework. One-to-one assistance gives students
the time and attention they need to excel in school.
Activities
Volunteers
are needed to assist counselors and supervisors in developing and
implementing activities with a therapeutic value. These include
sports, team events, cultural activities, dance, music, and arts
and crafts. If you have any special talents that you would like
to share, please call our volunteer coordinator.
Independent
Living
This
program teaches children basic life skills. Volunteers are needed
to teach social, hygiene, cooking, cleaning and laundry skills.
The
Cottages-Shelter/Residential
In
the cottages (crisis care and residential treatment), volunteers
are needed to assist with homework, reading, outings with staff
and any other after-school projects and activities.
Vocational
Education
Students
ages 13+ are offered a four-week training program in which they
learn skills for finding employment in many areas on and off campus.
The training program covers applications and resumes, work ethics,
professionalism, career counseling and role-playing interviews.
If you are interested in assisting in this program or being a vocational
speaker, please call Carrie Hughes.
Cloud
9
Built
by dedicated Angels and on-campus volunteers, Cloud 9 is Casa Pacifica's
on-campus student store. The store represents a unique incentive
program as children must earn behavior points in order to shop.
Points are earned through a number of tasks including positive participation
in cottage, classroom, and on-campus activities.
All
points earned are used as "dollars" during Cloud 9 Day,
an event both volunteers and children look forward to. The store
is full of items like makeup, CDs, snacks, stuffed animals, toys,
books, video games, Walkmans and CD boom boxes. More than buying
power, the Cloud 9 program offers our children the opportunity to
understand the responsibilities of money and the reward of proper
behavior.
Cloud
9 solely offers products donated by generous community members
and
businesses. Steady and up-to-date supplies are always needed and,
of course, appreciated by the children. If you are interested
in
donating items for our store, please contact Tom
