Children who have been removed from home because of abuse or neglect and who remain in foster care often experience many moves - from one foster home to another and to a series of group homes as well. Over the course of these many moves, children may lose their connections to family and find themselves feeling abandoned and alone.
Kindle Family Connections, a program of Casa Pacifica, helps reconnect children with their families and re-establish relationships based on trust, love and permanence. Using internet technology, Kindle identifies and locates family members, evaluates their interest and suitability, and begins the process of engaging them with the child. Through a focus on the child’s perspective, Kindle helps the child understand their personal and family narrative and expands their network of emotional connections. These connections will enable youth to achieve higher levels of stability and success as they approach adulthood. Kindle’s goal is for every child we work with to develop a permanent emotional connection with at least one stable and supportive adult.
When appropriate, Kindle also provides for specialized attachment therapy for youths and family members in an integrated collaboration with Kids & Families Together, a Ventura County community based organization specializing in attachment issues. Kindle’s family finding program is delivered in close cooperation with CFS social workers, Probation, and Behavioral Health.
