Casa Pacifica Amigos
The Casa Pacifica Amigos are currently celebrating their fourth year of
helping Our Kids at Casa Pacifica! Each year, we have grown in members
and in our ability to give back to Our wonderful Kids.
The Casa Pacifica Amigos was inspired by the needs of Our Kids. The goal
was to compliment the amazing services being provided by the Angels. At
the time, the Angels were a group comprised of mostly females and focused
on fundraising events in the community and planning large-scale, annual
events for Our Kids, such as the prom, Christmas party and Halloween party.
Two men started the Amigos in 2004 to fulfill the need for more positive
male role models for Our Kids at Casa Pacifica. Just a few years later,
over 70 men and women proudly call themselves Amigos!
What is it like to be an Amigo?
Here’s how
one Amigo describes his experience: “Spending time with these kids has
been both hard and enjoyable. Seeing their smiles when you are around them
is great, but trying to understand what some of them have been through
at such an early age is heartbreaking. If spending a little time will help
in mending a little heart, I say spend it and make the world better for
someone." - Amigo Art Perez
Amigos with Our Kids!
The Amigos host fun and competitive events for Our Kids with opportunities
for value development such as teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play. Some
of the events the Amigos have planned include:
Lifeguard Days are a summer treat! LA County Lifeguards
spend the days with the Amigos and Our Kids, sharing their experiences and
safety knowledge. It’s a wet and wild day, complete with inflatable water
slides and in-the-pool fun!
Eagle Team Day games are sponsored
quarterly. Theme-based relay races such as the “Construction Relay”, “NASCAR
Relay” and “Firefighter Relay” have been great fun for all. Prizes
for the winning teams, food and drinks while viewing a multi-media show of
the day’s fanfare are Amigo standards.
Hands-On Clinics such as the Custom Car Show and
Auto Maintenance Clinic have been great for Our Kids. The bike ride and bike
mechanics clinic was a wonderful opportunity to teach the kids how to care
for safely ride their bikes.
Pinewood Derby in the Spring and Raingutter
Regatta in the Fall take place over three consecutive Saturday
mornings. The first Saturday, the Amigos help Our Kids cut and sand their cars
or boats. The second Saturday, they painting and detailing their masterpieces.
On the final Saturday, they put their cars and boats to the test on RACE DAY!
This event has become an Amigo must-do because of its popularity with Our Kids
and the Amigos!
Amigos with the Amigos!
The Amigos know how to have fun! On the third Friday of each month, we
gather at an Amigo’s Casa and have a friendly, Amigo Hold ‘Em
tournament for Amigos and their friends. This low-stakes game builds
a pot that funds the events for Our Kids and other needs, such as basketball
team uniforms. It’s a great way to meet the Amigos and give
back to Our Kids! Be sure to join us at the next Amigo Hold ‘Em night!
