Santa
Barbara Programs
Though
we have admitted children placed by Santa Barbara County into
campus-based programs over the years - 1996 to the residential
treatment program and 2002 to the crisis care (emergency shelter)
program - we did not deliver services within Santa Barbara County
until 2003.
Therapeutic
Behavioral Services (TBS). Starting
in 2003 Casa Pacifica opened an office on Hope Street in Santa
Barbara and begin Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS). This
service is provided through a contract with the Alcohol, Drug,
Mental Health Services (ADMHS) Department. TBS is a short-term,
intensive, supplemental mental health service designed to assist
children in either preserving a current placement when they are
in jeopardy of moving to a higher level of care or helping them
move back home and into their community. TBS counselors
spend most of their time implementing behavioral interventions
with the child and working with parents and caregivers to use effectively
behavioral plans. .
With
the majority of referrals coming from north Santa Barbara County,
Casa Pacifica opened a second office in Orcutt just outside of
Santa Maria. Thirteen behavior specialists along with
a licensed clinical psychologist now serve 40 families at out of
the two offices. This program is likely to continue to grow.
The
Children's Project. Funded by a planning
grant from a local Santa Barbara Foundation, the Children's Project
is a collaborative public/private project in Santa Barbara County
focused on developing an innovative boarding school and college
preparatory academy in Santa Barbara County that will, through
a rigorous, supportive and academic environment, create a community
where foster children and selected youth with mental health or
delinquency issues can set and achieve high educational goals as
well as learn valuable vocational, social and life skills to prepare
them for a successful future.
In
October of 2004 Casa Pacifica responded to a Request for Qualification
issued by the Children's Project to residential and educational
programs throughout California. Casa Pacifica has been selected
as the residential provider and will work with the steering committee
to identify suitable property, launch a capital campaign to build
a campus, develop a program and financing design to assure sustainability,
reach out to neighboring counties to support this effort, and advocate
for special licensing and funding at the state level for this innovative,
promising program. Visit the Children's Project website
