Bed-based Services

All of Casa Pacifica's bed based services are located on the campus in Camarillo. Bed-based services include a 45-bed Crisis Care or emergency shelter and a 28-bed residential treatment program.   The Crisis Care program serves primarily Ventura County children though Santa Barbara Child Protective Services may also place children on a "space available" basis.   The Residential Treatment program gives priority to children from the tri-Counties though children and adolescents from other Southern California Counties are also accepted.

Crisis Care Program (capacity 45)

Casa Pacifica provides temporary shelter for children removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect or abandonment. They receive care, assessment and treatment in five separate living units segregated by age (birth through five, 6-12, 13-17) and gender for appropriate programming and supervision.

By design, the Crisis Care program is a temporary, short-term placement for children entering the child welfare system or who are in foster care but have had an unsuccessful foster home or group home placement.   The focus of the program is on assessment and short-term trauma care and treatment.   Children receive immediate medical attention and educational and social emotional assessments intended to assist Child Protective Services and the dependency court judge in making the best decisions possible as they plan for the child's future.
A unique "safety watch" program enables us to call a "one-on-one" (one staff member always within arms' reach) for a child who is deemed a danger to him/herself or others. This program equips Casa Pacifica to admit high-risk youngsters and to keep them and others safe for as long as they need our services.
Children stay in Crisis Care for an average of 50 days. Upon leaving Casa Pacifica, about half of the children go home or to a relative's home (typically with support services provided by the county). About a third go to foster homes and the rest require group care or residential treatment.

Residential Treatment Program (capacity 28)
Children ages 11 through 17 who have proven too difficult for a group home or foster home setting require intensive residential treatment for an extended period of time. These youth have emotional and behavioral problems typically coupled with serious social and academic skill deficits.
Each child/youth in this special program has an individualized treatment plan specifically tailored to his/her needs. Treatment, which takes place over about 18 months, incorporates the 24-hour milieu and is overseen by a multidisciplinary team of experienced professionals, including: psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, teachers, therapeutic activity specialists and child care counselors. Based on cognitive/ behavioral principles, this highly structured experiential program is designed to teach children cognitive strategies and social skills that will enable them to live effective and fulfilling lives at home and in the community.

Whenever possible, family involvement is strongly encouraged, and parents and families are viewed as an essential part of each child's overall treatment program. Casa Pacifica provides family support services, including frequent "family nights," family therapy and parent/sibling support groups. Additionally, we offer a variety of "wrap around" services designed to ease the transition home or to another level of care.
